HALF-YEARLY MEETING

The half-yearly meeting of this branch was held in the Socialist Hall on Monday, December 2. Motions of sympathy were carried in silenc<* to the family of F, G. Evans and to the family of A. Patorson, the meeting standing. The resolution printed elsewhere was also adopted.

The secretary, in reporting progress, Said the past six months had been the most successful since the starting of the branch. The membership had been greatly increased during tbb term. Seventy members had Joined during the past two months. Assistance had been rendered to the Federation of Labor in thei rtrouble' at Waihi and Reefton. A large number of meetings had been organised for local speakers and the> officials of the Federation to explain the grievances, and although a victory had not been gained at Waihi the action of the Massey Government would serve- as a lesson to the workers that governments of the- employing class are on the side of the employers and all the f-nfinoß of government will be used against the- workers until they go forward undivided in their ranks for Socinlism.

The balance-sheet for the six months was received; the auditors reported books in good order, and good progress was being made.

The election of officers was keenly contested, and resulted as follows: Chairman, L. R. Wilson; secretary, F. R. Cooke; minute secretary, W. G. Bent; literature secretary, D. Whyte; treasurer, S. Davies; social secretary, C. Isaacson; librarian. Mrs. D. Whyte; executive committee of eight, as well as other committees, were elected. There was too much business to finish in one evening, ko an adjournment, was moved at 11 o'clock.—F. R, COOKE. Sec.
