WELLINCTON SLAUGHTERMEN.
RUMORED STRIKE
It is rumored that the Wellington Slaughtermen's Union intends io cancel its registration under the Arbitration Act and to seek for new conditions from the employers, the non-granting of which will-precipitate a strike-. The present rate paid for slaughtering sheep is 235. per hundred, and it is understood that the men intend to ask for 30s. The outlook is considered rather serious by the employers. The men had made demands in the South Island, and a, conference had been held which had proved abortive. It is believed that by cancellation of registration the men intond ceasing work when the awards expire in January next. This will be the height of the season.
