REEFTON DISPUTE
INANCAHUA MINERS' UNION.
A special general meeting of the above waa held at Reefton on November 10. There was a very large attendance, some 200 being present. Mr. G. R. Crowley (president of the Union) presided.
Messrs J. Dowgray and M. Fagan, delegates of the Federation of Labor, presented the following report :-■- R?efton Dispute. A settlement of the above dispute has been arrived at, the following being the main provisions of the agreement: 1. That the employers' claim that hammer drills should be worked by one man be withdrawn, and tliat all mining operations carried on under this head shall be done by men working in pairs. 2. The employers to have the right to have stoping and all other descriptions of mining operations to be don} It contract, subject to specifications which have been drawn up. 3. Preference to unionists is grant* ed on the condition that if the worker does not join the union on the first pay day after his engagement he shall be dismissed, provided there be then a member of the union who is equally qualified to perform the particular work required to be done, and is ready and willing to undertake the same. 4. The employers agrse there shall be no "victimisation" of members of the union, and that all workers shall be reinstated in their former positions as far as poseible. 5. The agreement, to remain in force for 12 months from December 1, 1912. 6. The above settlement has been approved by the companies interested. This was recommended to the meeting. After some discussion, it was resolved that a ballot be taken on November 16, to adopt or otherwise the recommendation forwarded.
