A Smarting Rebuff.
In spit* of the pathetic appeal made sortie weeks ago by the Christchurch "Press' fo.r subscriptions towards the cadets' prize fund, which was started (at whoso request?) by the tv'ife of Dictator-General Godley, that jingo journal is now lamenting the "unfortunate" fact that, up to October 21, only £16 had come to light.
For tins poor response the "Press" could find no better excuse than to blame the efforts of the. canvassers for the Y.W.C.A. buiHing fund. What humbug!
Anyhow, tho patriotism of the jingoes having so far failed, the- "Press" hn-s since born urging that more frantic efforts bo made, to get the' money in, as tho, conscription scheme just now is in great need of any "boosting" it can get.
It is peculiar how some folk rave about "patriotism"—so long as others are fool enough to pay for it—but this little matter seems to have escaped the notice of the editor of the "Press" altogether, henco the reason of blaming the Y.W.C.A. instead of his own stunted vision.
Say, -workers, have you had money to waste on that prize fund ?
