The Present Situation.

WHAT ABOUT THE UNIONISTS IN PRISON 7 WORDS TO TOILERS. Sir,—l trust that the workers of this Dominion will be up and doing. The industrial battle 'is raging at Rwfton and Waihi, and 66 of our brothers are at this moment imprisoned at Mt. Eden jail. We must demand their release. To secure this, all assistance, morally and financially, is greatly . needed. Fight for 'the emancipation of our class. At no time like the present have the workers-of this country needed organised solidarity.

Organised labor on the proper lines is the only means by which the workers can obtain their economic.freedom.

We have political equality, which i» absolutely useless to us unless we organise, our industrial forces, and demand through them econbmic equality. Organised labor has within itself all the" necessary" factors for the complete ownership of the means af production and distribution.

It is imperative that every worker should make , himself thoroughly acquainted with the true position of affairs at Waihi and Reef ton. We must not allow ourselves to b<? gulled by the piffle and rot we read in the daily papers. The capitalists of this country have cunningly and deliberately set out to flam and blast the N.Z.F.L., and to accomplish this they are using a few scabs (poor fools) to act as a uo-between, so that they might delude the people into believing that it is only a squabble between two unions:

Such is not the case. It is war flsrced by the capitalist against the worker. Now, victory for the miners is victory for Labor. This fight must be won, and to win we must have whole-hearted assistance.

Subsoribe -to The Maowland Worker, and ascertain the; facts for yourselves.

.At Reefton the men are locked-oufc by the mine-owners, but- np v police are sent there to protect the workers' interests.

At Waihi the men are out on strike, and over 100 police have been sent there to try their best to force the workers into submission. And the police (the tools of the mine-owners) hare been the means of sending 66 of the best and noblest) men in our land to jail because they dared to encroach on the economic privileges of the exploiting class. I trust that whatever action the Federation decides to take will result in the immediate release of those imprisoned men, who are exiled from their wives and children for a principle of most vital importance to every classy-conscious worker.—-Yours in the fight, ■--••■ "•■■.■•
