SHEARERS' ACCOMMODATION.
At Waipawa, before Mr. McCarthy, S.M., Thomas Nestor, Te Taheke station, was charged with failing to comply with a notice requiring him to provide additional accommodation as required Ijy section 6 of the Shearers and Agricultural Laborers' Accommodation Act, 1908. He was similarly charged in respect of the accommodation provided at his Wharetaka property. Defendant did not appear.
The inspector (Mr. Bailey.) said that in respect of the Wharetaka property, notice had been served on him in December, 1910. Nothing had been done, and notice was served on him again in December, last year. There was no
water, no sanitary convenience, and some of tlie men had to sleep in the dining-room. Practically all new accommodation was required at Te Taheke.
His Worship made an order providing for 241') cubic feet of space for each of nine shearers at Te Taheke, and that water and sanitary conveniences be supplied. A separate dining-room must be erected, and where females are employed separate sleeping accommodation must be supplied for each sex. A similar order was made in respect of Wharetaka for six shearers. Costs must be paid.
