A "FREE" PRESS!
The following announcement appeared in a recent edition of the Christchurch "Evening News" :—"Mr. E. C. Huie, who has edited the "Fivening News" for the past six years, has resigned, as a result of the decision of the proprietors that the, editorial views of the paper must not conflict with those of the "Press" on important questions of policy."
Wired from Dunedin on October 1: — It is understood that as an outcome of the movement by reporters to secure, a hotter scale of salaries throughout ihe Dominion, the "Otago Daily Times" Company is giving its staff two months' notice that their engagements will all be terminated.
