REPLY TO F. R. COOKE.
A DEFENCE OF CANTERBURY INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
Sir, —Oα the 17th inst. I bought a copy of your paper, which bears dnte. the 20th inst.. I see a letter from Mr. F. K. Cooke, in which he makes some very extraordinary remarks because the Canterbury Industrial Association have taken steps to find out tbe truth about the shortage, of skilled labor in the l!>ouiinion. I have sent out 1256 circulars to the factories in this industrial district, and have received a number of interesting: replies. That the shortage is real and in many cases pressing the iv plies clearly stato. If Mr. C'ooko likes 1 will bo happy to l«t him see all the replies, and he can then judge for himself. I am happy to say that our action has resulted in my getting several young chaps well placed already. Whore I think Mr. Cooke is astray is in his reading of th& circular, as he contends that the employers are after the bad old days of two men to one job.
