Rich and Poor.

FROM ECCLESIASTICUSChapter xlli., verses 18 to 23.

(Apocrypha—Conerally suppressed from the Bible.)

18;: What fellowship hath the wolf with the lamb? And what peace between the rich and the poor? 19. As the wild ass is the lion's prey in the wilderness: so the rich eat ug the poor. 20. As the. proud hate humility, so doth the rich abhor the poor. 21. 'A rich man beginning to fall is held up of his friends; but a poor man, being down, is thrust also away by his friends. 22. When a rich man is fallen he hath many helpers: he speaketh things not to l>o spoken, and yet men justify him I The poor man slipped, yet they rebuked him also; he spake wisely, but could have no place. 23.' When a rich man speaketh, every man.holdeth his tongue, and look, what he saith they extol it to the. clouds! But i? the poor man speak, 'they- say, ''What, fellow is this.?'? And if lie stumble, they will help to. overthrow" him. ... When the author-wrote this, could he have had in mind the attitude of the modern capitalist' towards the N.Z. Federation of Labor? At any rate, he knew what lie was writing about, which is infinitely more than can be said of the pretensions of the Bible-in-Sehoolfl League.
