DEMANDS REPEAL OF CONSCRIPTION AND STANDS FOR THE FRANCHISE Sir.-~-I enclose, a copy of a resolution carried, without dissent, at. our las-t W.C-T.r. meeting. Auckland Central, which celebrated the nineteenth anniversary of the granting of electoral franchise to tbe women of New Zea-land.-E. J. PUDNEY. "This meeting of Auckland Central Women's Christian Temperance. Union desires to enter its emphatic protest against the compulsory of the Defence Act, now in force ii*/ New Zealand,"and urges that no young man or boy should be compelled to bear arms or" undergo military training who objects on conscientious grounds to do so. . "Further, that this meeting regards the possession of the electoral franchise as the inalienable right of every adult citizen of this Dominion, and therefore considers that no conscientious objector to compulsory military training, whilst under the age of 21 years, should be deprived of his electoral rights in tbe replace.

At this meeting David Turnbull stated that ho was the owner of the. letter; further, that it had been written by P. Crimmins, late of Globe Hill, and now residing at Broken Hill. To-day the following cable was received from Broken Hill Miners' Union : "To Fagan, secretary Inangahua Miners' Union. "Your letter with paper cutting received. Crimmins is not a member of this union. Got him at my office yesterday. He denies writing letter to Turnbull or any other person. Either he or Turnbull are lying. Am forwarding letter, also another cheque for £500.
