Reefton Union Approached by Manager.

BUCCESTION FOR SETTLEMENT

Consolidated Goldfields of N.Z. Ltd., Reef ton, August 22, 1912. M. Fagan, Esq., secretary Inangahua Miners' 1.U.W., Keefton. Dear Sir,—The thought has occurred to mc that a more satisfactory solution of the present and past difficulties might be arrived at by the following ■ir:3thod under the Arbitration Act, 190S (not the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act): — That all matters in dispute bo referred to two arbitrators, one to be appointed by each party. That an umpire be mutually agreed upon by the arbitrators so appointed before they proceed to business. That in'the event of such arbitrators failing to agree upon an umpire, ■ the President of the Arbitration Court be applied to for the purpose of appointing such umpire. That every question in dispute be settled by the two arbitrators so ' '-chW. " ."'«■'. , «n\hh i#r.t of the arbitrators to agree on the whole or any part of the questions submitted, the umpire's decision to be final. That both parties agree to pledge themselves to agree to the decision or ■decisions of such arbitrators and, or, umpire, and to restart work immediately upon receipt of such decision. That the cost of arbitration be fixed by the arbitrator and paid for by such party as the arbitrators or umpire shall determine. The above is put forward as a suggestion, and we shall be glad to receive your opinion upon tlie same by this afternoon, in order that, if thought by yourselves to contain a possible solution, we can each communicate to our representative appearing before the court to-morrow our ideas upon the subject.—Yours faithfully, A WINTER EVANS, General Manager. (The Inangahua Union has referred this letter to the executive of the i F.L-, which now has it. under considerEd.)
