LIVELY AND DETERMINED HAPPENINCS.
Since my last report, things have been stirred up considerably. The boys after a long absence received notices to attend drill on a Thursday night. When the word to ''fall-in" was given two territorials lined up to face the officers. The officers evidently didn't care to waste any energy or work on only two. What do you think of that for solidarity, comrades ? Two boys out of 60 odd. | I regret to hear of the illness of Mr. P. O'Rourke, who was a grand fighter for the P.R.'S. AYe all wish him a speedy recovery to good health again, j The dance? are still kept going and jare well patronised and appreciated by all. Sonic of the hoys aro going to give little speeches at the dances so as to fit them to hold up the endi of the I'.R.U. in time to como. - Mr. R. Semple gave a stirring address on "Militarism in Australasia." He was appreciated right throughout. Again, we had Comrades Semple and Howard and four other P.R.s facing a large and eager audience on a recent Sunday evening. Mr. R. Knight was in the chair, and briefly introduced the speakers. After the boys had delivered their addresses in a manner which surprised all present, a motion was passed unanimously protesting against the introduction of military detention. A collection was taken up towards bringing that sturdy warrior, H. E. Holland, down here. AA'e were all pleased to see him and compliment him on his fearless actions towards the defence authorities -in Australia. After the big meeting was over, about GO enthusiasts stopped behind to consider ways and means of helping several boys of the Greymouth district who had received summonses for .not -complying with the Act. Finally it was arranged that Messrs. Semple and Howard proceed to Greymouth to apply for. an adjournment of the cases so as to get time to engage a lawyer and make other necessary arrangements. Two cases were dismissed and ten. others adjourned. Messrs. Semple and Howard are hopeful of winning tho cases/ Another collection amounted to £3 odd/ It is rumored that summonses are to be issued shortly to all the defaulters here. The boys arc quite solid and are determined to stick true to their principles. Arrangements were made for visits to Cobden and Blackball to hold meetings and get motions passed against the Act. —RESISTER..
