At the Magistrate's Court at Rcefton on August 23, before Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., C. It. Thornton, editor of the Rcefton "Times," was charged on tho information of It. Semple with having used abusive language towards him in Broadway, Reefton, on July 9, within the hearing of passers-by, with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, such words being, inter alia, "Semple, they toll mo you are going to Australia ; may you rot there, you rotten

Mr. Phillips applied for an adjournment, as the principal of four witnesses had to obey a subpoena to the Supreme Court at Christchurch, which prevented his attendance at the Magistrate's Court that day.

His Worship adjourned the case, and on the question of costs said that it wgs a matter for subsequent consideration. —"N.Z. Times."
