COMPENSATION CASE.
In December, 1910, ap employee of the Fairfield Freezing Work?, Canterbury, lost his life While at work, leaving a widow and three children to be provided for. The company agreed to pay the sum of £487 19s. 6d. as compensation, together with £20 for medical and funeral expenses. Tho widow, through the bungling of a lawyer, <ji* not get the case settled until August tho following year. He charged for this simplo little bit of work £59 14s. 6d., and was careful to see that his bill was paid when paying over the money. An effort was made later by some of her friends to get a portion of this refunded, but without success. An order was then made under section 37 of th© Workers' Compensation. A r <t, which resulted in the widow receiving » refund of £21 ss. lOd.
