WELLINCTON WATERSIDERS.

The Wellington Waterside Workers' Band made its first appearance in public last week at their social in the Alexandra Hall. There was a large attendance, some 250 people being present. The band played two marches outside the hall, and then conducted the Grand March, in which 80 couples took part. The social was run as a continuous gathering, the dances being interspersed with songs. Several leading city bandsmen were present, and expressed their appreciation of the new band's first effort in public. This band now has 36 players and a students' class of 15 learners. It is tlie intention to run monthly socials until November in order to raise sufficient money to ptirohase uniforms. At these socials the band will play all the dance music.

God help the poor—the .rich can steal.
