AUCKLAND GROCERS.
Dear Sir,—The par- re grocers' a» sistants and bosses' conference, Auck* land, contains some discrepancies, (1) There are three assessors on each side, not two as stated. (2) Though it is a fact that the grocers' assistants' secretary stated that the assessors for the men would accept the Wellington award, he made a mistake, for the assessors were unanimous that the award was of little use especially in regard to preference and hours. There is a "joker" in th© preference clause cunningly inserted which defeats preference.
To sum up: The Wellington grocers and assistants' award, leaving out the wages (which is an increase of 5b.), is ■practically useless and the effrontery of that highly-paid judicial autocrat is beyond belief. I hepfe the union will ask for an award on their own, and if a better' one Is hot given them thtti the Auckland men will know what to think. How long heforo the BWpeTs awake and put the court out of action ? —You is for the ■Otm Bte Union,
KENNETH MACDONALD
