Mr. F. Freeman was at Palmerston N. the other week and spoke on Saturday and Sunday evenings. The local papers thus referred to the Saturday meeting:—
"Manawatu Daily Times," July 2 l >: "A Socialist attempted to deliver an address in the Square on Saturdaynight, but could not do so owing to a section of tho crowd interfering. The man tried time after time to speak, but was refused a hearing. At last some youths knocked him off his box and chased him away."
"Manawatu Evening Standard," July 29: "Mr. Freeman also delivered an address in tho Square on Saturday evening,- and was accorded a good hearing. In moving away, however, he was followed by a number of young men whoso conduct was anything but creditable."
This is "God's own country" our politicians tell us, but ono doubts if it is also the outdoor laborer's Out of 11 weeks only one full week has been worked by the men engaged oil the Lower Hutt Borough Council's drainage works. The other week the average time worked was 25 hours.
