The Time to Strike
My God, I am weary of waiting fur the yoax of juljilw; I leuow that tho c.yclo of man is a moment only to Thee; Tlif-y have hold nir 1 back with preadiing what t-liu pationw oi God is lileo, But the world is weary of wm'ting; will it never come linio to iliihcr .
Wiien my !i'\-iri. rone i:i :vb''lii.m at the wrongs my fellows l.iore, It was, "Wait till prudent saving has gathered you up a store;" And "Wait till a higher station brings value io men's eyes;" And "Waii till the groy-strwikcd hair shall arjjiit' , your eovin-x , ! wise."
The hearts that kindled with mine arc caught in the self-same net,; One waits to master thy law, tho' h'n heart strings vibrato yet; And one- is heaping up learning, and many aiv heaping up tjold, And some are fierce in t.lic* torum, while slowly v.c all wax old.
Tlic bitter lesson of pationce I liave practised, lo! these many years; Can it be what has passed for prudonco prompted by my fears? Can I doubt henceforth in my choosing if such a choice I must have, Between being wi.w and craven or being foolish and brave?
Whenever the weak and woaiy aro ridden down by the strong, Whenever the voice of honor is drowned by the howling throng, Whenever Iho right plc-ads dearly while the lords of life are dumb, Tho times of forbearance are over, and tho time-, to strike has come. —W. H. Carruth.
