The "Retort Courteous" to Union-

Smashers and Prof. Mills

The above union met at the Trades Hall on Tuesday, July 8; Mr. J. Flood presiding. Tho secretary and Mr. H. A. Campboll wero appointed to proceed to Lake Coleridge for tho purpose of organising the workers there. A letter was received from Mr. D. Kollohery secretary Auckland and .Suburban Local Bodies' Industrial Union of Workers, asking for information to assist thorn in preparing a'log to go beforo the employers with a v : cw to getting an award. It was resolved that tho following reply be sent: "Dear Sir, —Yours to hand re conditions under which wo aro working. I havo been instructed to reply and to ask you would you kindly send tho names and addresses and photographs, if possible, of each of your members, so that should wo meet thorn in hell we can avoid them, having no timo for blacklegs, dead or alive." A letter was received from W. T. Mills, asking tho union to support the "N.Z. Times," and asking for '.ortain information. It was resolved to inform W. T. Mills: "That wo aro more than nine days old, consequently cur oyc3 are open. We absolutely refuse to be put up by auction and sold to tho highest bidder, no matter who the auctioneer is. We want nothing to do with any individual who advocates starving tho workers so as to torce them under the heel of the capitalist clasj. Tho ballot committee reported that tho plebiscite in reference to vot : ng £100 for Reefton and Waihi had resulted in tho question being carried. A request was received from tho Alt. Somers and surrounding districts for an organiser to be sent to those districts, and it was resolved that tin's mater would receive attention at as early a date as possible. It was resolved to hold a social and dance at an early date the proceeds to go to tho Mrs. Hart benefit fund, and a committee of nino was set up te make all arrangeuu>nt3.— A.
