— 9j P. H. HICKEY. j A DELEGATION TO AUSTRALIAN ! UNIONS. On Fridny last Mr. P. 11. Ilickey Jeffc Wellington for Sydney as the odi- ' eiiil representative of the Federation of 1 Labor and authorised to ne'et unions 'and raise funds for the strike and lock-out fund. Across tho wtiter he will probably Im> joined by another doleI gate. [ After reaching Sydney, they will probably separate, and- arrange a tour of ' the mining fields of Victoria and New , South Wales, afterwards meeting other I industrial workers, and finally touring the other States. We predict that they will meet with ■■a hearty welcome from tho Australian ; stalwarts, who know what wage-wars I: are, and have had the lessons burned ;■ into their very fibre. Success to thorn I They will circulate the. following j leaflet in Australia: — ' N.Z. FEDERATION OF LABOR, Strike and Lock-out of Nsw Zealand's Coldttiiners. MANIFESTO TO AUSTRALIAN , UNIONISTS. Greetings! At tho present time a, bitter warfare is raging in New Zealand against militant Labor organisa- . tion and unionism. ! Centre of Trouble.—The fight just now is centred at the goldfieldss of Waihi and ilcefton, in the North and South .Island respectively, 2000 men being on strike or locked-out. Principles Involved.—Briefly,, the men are fighting for the right to refuse- to work with a scab union (knowing that ! this would imperil all solidarity and; ; working-class principle), and also • against the compulsory tisn of tho "popper" by ono miner instead of two i (knowing that this "speeding-up"- ---' means increased: risk of miners' j phthisis and increased danger to life j and limb).
i Contracting.—These are tho main issues at stake, but, in addition, the men ■are opposing the further introduction !of tho sub-contract system.
Our Enemies. —Tiic light is being actively waged for capitalism by. the Mine-owners' Association, tho Employers' Federation, tho Grown Law Oißoe, and the whole of tho daily pross of the country. Tlioy hope to effectively wipeout militant unionism from New Zealand's goldliclds and to destroy tho'New Zealand Federation of Labor.
Abortive Conference. —A conference between tho parties concerned was recently held, but proved abortive. The only terms upon which the mine-owners would agree to a settlement woro the complete surrender of principles hold dear by tho unions involved.
Fight will be Won. —Without the assistance of Australian unionists tho tight cannot bo won. With your cooperation victory, is assured.
Authorial Delegates.— Authorised delegates from the federation of Labor are now in Australia for the purpose of placing the situation before the Australian union-, and these, delegates will !>e glad to address any union or give any further information.
P. C. WEBB, President J. GLOVER, Secretary.
