9,000,000 WOMEN WORKERS IN GERMANY-
j The most important fact revealed by !-.tho German National Woman's Exposition now being held in Berlin is tho enormous number of German women 'who, despite tlio national axiom that a woman's place J3 in her home, have to work fcfr a living outside their homes. In agriculture, 4,500,000 are employed, and they do everything from managing estate 3to ploughing. The Polis-h and Italian women who accompany thoir husbands into Germany at harvest time and work in the fields by the side of the men, aro probably not counted' in this reckoning. In industry, 2,100,----000 women are occupied. Tho garments trade provides work for 721,000 wo>mon, the textile industry for 528,000' tho prepared foods trade for 249,0001 Altogef'ho-r, it is calculated that, out of a total female population of 32,000,----000, not lcs3 than 9,000,000 earn their own livings. Of these, only 134,000 aro home workers, mostly extremely ilk paid. There are 180,000 saleswomen and 120,000 clerks. In every,, branch except agriculture, tho increase in a single generation is enormous.
