A very quick and thorough way to clean knives is to get a cork, wet one end, dip it in knife powdor, and rub it up and down tho knife several times. A splendid polish will be the result. The best way to protect toes of boots when scrubbing floors is to cover tho part of tho boot with a piece of felt or old carpet. Cut the felt or carpet a littlo larger than tho size, of the boots. Sew up tho Bides and slip the felt cap over tho boot. This will prevent the boot leather rubbing against tho floor. To prevent lamp glasses cracking,-put. them into cold water, bring to the boil, and cool in the same water. Soap rubbed on door hinges stops creaking. When making boiled starch, add a tablospoonful of paraffin. This will prevent tho iron from sticking, and the linen will receive a gloss. Proservcs should be kept on the kitchen high shelf or in cupboard; damp spoils them. " Peel onions from the root upwards, and they will not make your eyes smart. Wooden spoons and pastry boards will repay a good scrubbing with sand in preference to soap. A cracked egg may bo boiled by placing a teaspoonful of salt in the water. This prevents any of tho white from boiling out of tho crack. When washing blouses, handkerchiofs or any small articles at homo, put a small lump of orris root into the rinsing water.
