ENCINE-DRIVERS DESERTING.

While the master-class press is o\er ready to quote instances of union men leaving Waihi, it is a noteworthy fact that several members of the scab En-gine-drivers' Union have left Waihi. Prior to leaving with his family, one member stated that he "was fairly disgusted with his atttiudo in connection with the scab union." The press is also complaining about the boycott being applied to the scab engine-drivers and salaried officials who are doing scab work. The individual members of the Workers' Union have refused to stay in hotels, boarding-houses, etc., if the I rouble-causers are allowed to stay there. The contempt displayed by strikers towards workmen who are receiving salaries from the company has been a great factor in causing those men to realise that those who are not with us are against us. It is true that pressure has been brought to bear on those who love the masters better than the slaves. But nothing has lx-on said about the action of a mere handful o£ drivers throwing a large industry into idleness, thereby causing suffering and hardship to thousands. Why!- Because the companies are diiectly interested in this fight, which means either the success of the Federation or the Arbitration Court.
