CANTERBURY LABORERS' UNION.
The Crey Fund—Preventing War— Auckland Mayoral Election. At, the meeting of the Union held at tho Trades Hall on Tuesday, April 30, Mr. J. Flood presiding, a notification was received from the Federation of Labor that the Conference would be held on May 23. It was resolved that next meeting, on May 14, be calleil by advertisement to consider the items on the order paper. A communication was received from tho Canterbury Trades and Labor Council, appealing for further assistance for the "Grey Fund." It, was resolved that on account of the unsatisfactory way in which the Council had administered the "Grey Fund" in tho past the Union could not entrust them with any more money, and that the Union start a Grey Fund on its own account, and make an appeal for assistance through the columns of "The Worker." The following two motions were carried unanimously :— "That we send international greetings to nil workers, and declare that, in the event of the capitalist class bringing about a war between any two nations, wo will join with our brother workers to down tools, and thereby stop tho war." "That this Union express its disgust at the action of the Unity Schemers of Auckland and their organ, tho 'Voice of Labor,' in their attitude in connection with the recent Mayoral election." The secretary reported that the bal-lot-papers in connection with the ballot for or against the cancelling of the registration of the union under the Arbitration Act would be posted on May 1, returnable on May 31.
