F. R. Cooko writes: — Any comrade in sympathy wilh the Socialist cross, "For courage,' , is asked to forward a small contribution towards tho cost. There are a number of crosses in tho course of being i'mished, and by appearances we shall require a larger number than was .at iirst anticipated, therefore this appeal. Many may ask why the Socialist Party is imitating tho military authorities and their barbaric symbols of slaughter. Wo answer that our cross is symbolical of peace and brotherhood, and in after lifo the boys who havo gained them can justly boast of striking a blow for liberty and fra-teruity. Gallant boys, you have got tho true courage. The words of Longfellow are bufore mo as I write this: — "Tho warrior's name would be a name abhorred; And every nation that ehould lift again Its hand against a brother, on its forehead Would wear for evermore the curse of Cain."
