AUCKLAND ACTIVITIES.

Working to Down Parr—Big Meetings

Personal Items

All is quiet in Auckland again outwardly, but inwardly tho forces of education and agitation are bringing in the fruit of solidarity. lam convinced —«yo, and sure —that organised Laboit will come out of the present laborers' , trouble with flying colors and closer or-, gaDjsition. The master-class of Auek-j fend wanted a strike a while ago, ancli they didn't got it—which was ratheii bard lines after getting ready for nvoj long months. " My opinion is that we shall strike at, the ballot bos first, and then sec if a| good victory "ill have any effect upon: the tin gods in office. Our Union officials have been putting in good work getting all the workers ana their wives upom the roll, and I think on election night there will be a ■plcndid vote for industrial solidarity, whioh will go a long way to clear the way for industrial revolt, if necessary. Comrade Scott Bennett has been doing splendid work amongst the unions! and (it demonstationu, inculcating the gospel of closer and more soientific organisation. There was a record advertisement in Saturday week's "Star," placed there 6y 32 unions, calling their members to attend a mass meeting on Sunday week afternoon at the- Opera House. Dici, they come? My word, they did, and; the place was packed by 3 o'clock. Then: P. Fraser, Scott Bennett, and a phalanx of about 20 leading Labor officials marched on to the platform. Welcomed with applause, they soon started talking "business" to tho audience. Bennett and M. J. Savage were particularly interesting, clear, concise, aiul emphatic in their addresses, whilst A. Rosscr* preached an effective sermon from the fifth chapter of Daniel, and likened one Bolshazzar to that landmark of New Zealand's history, Mr. Parr. But, said tho only Arthur, the handwriting was upon tho wall, and the landmark was weighed in the balanceand found (in tho ballot box) wanting. Let's hope so, workers of Auckland. Put Parr out, and pass a vote of iioconfidcuce in the City Council. The vast meeting passed a motion unanimously in favor of running a Labor candidate- for the Mayoralty. Sunday night week saw our comrade Bennett' addressing a full house upon "Heretics and Heresies," when ho dealt with the Methodist Conference findings in the charges brought by a layman against tho Rev. Mr. Chapman, of Wellington. He was heartily applauded and at tho closo answered many questions. It may be news to many comrades in New Zealand that H. M. Fitzgerald is at present under the doctor's'care with lung trouble, and it is quite probable that our talented comrade will bo unable to lecturo for quite three months. I am sure that all wish him a speedy recovery. Wo cannot afford to loso such a past master of economics as friend Fritz. The party aro having a benefit social and dance far him on April 17. Tickets arc now available, 2a. and Is. Gd. each. Roll up and mako a success of it.

Congratulations to tho TTuntlv and Wailii minors and the Wellington "W.W. TJnions upon their endorsement of the laborers' fight in Auckland. Labor is not divided after all in New Zealand, but moving consciously towards tho principle of tlie One Big Union. WitBess tho minors' strike of Britain, master-class of New Zealand; if you want war, you can have it —when wo are ready. Workers of Auckland, unite. Solidarity is the only way to luccoss.— SPAN WIRE.
