GREYMOUTH WATERSIDERS REPUDIATE REACTION.

The Grevmcuth Waterside Workers' Union, which has been gagged and chloroformed by reactionary officials, has against the counsels of fofsildom, at last appealed to tlie Now Zealand Federation of Labor for assistance in the drafting of a new agreement. For nearly two weeks delegates from the Union had been meeting the employers in conference, but were unable to arrive at any satisfactory result. Meeting after meeting, it is reported, proved abortive. , On February 14. at a full meeting ot the men and in the teeth of the opposition of its officers, tho Union decided to ask the Federation's assistance. This decision- of the Greymouth men to renounce a policy of ignorance for oiU of intelligence is the outcome of the magnificent and aggressivo propaganda carried on by such whole-hearted industrialists as Jack Dt.sniend, J. Osborne and others. . If those officials whose nho-rt-sigmed and ignorant tactics were responsible for the Union's absence from tlie Wellington conference have any sense of de'-enev they will get right out oi oilice. ' The, bitterness and vindictivoness displayed by certain officials and ev-olßcials of the Union, the deliberate attempts: mado to strangle free speech, the discrimination which they allowed, and it is alleged encouraged, against Federation supporters are such that, in the opinion of tlie writer, it would be suicidal to admit them into the Federation as ofhecra.
