FEDERATION OF LABOR MEETS SHIPPING COMPANIES.

The adjo'inied conference between the N.Z.F.L., waterside ■union.., and the shipping companies fit New Zealand is being held in Wellington during t-lm present- week. The conference that assembled in Dunedin before the Christmas holidays was adjourned, as there was not sufficient time in which to draft an agreement and through tho waterside " workers not being fully represented. Webb i representing th*- N.Z.F.L.I, delegates from Timaru. I.yti-dton. Westport. Nelson, Wellington, Patea, and Auckland Waterside Unions are present. It is hoped that as a result of the conference many grievance. of a national character will be wiped out and a Dominion rate of puy in ix-rtain classes of labor established.'' The advantage of ;. Dominion agreement, terminating at the same time from Auckland to the Bluff, should bo very apparent to all concerned. Although the isolated union on the Wanganui river, which calls itself the Dominion Iv.ectitive Waterside Workers' Federation, will not he rep.oscnt-a-d, tin- conference will embrace the representativs of the m-ajorily of watorsiders of the country, and can in conseouence, be classed as the most representative body of waterside workers yet hold in New Zealand.
