He worked on a farm as a cadet, and was also on the gbldfields for a time. He the» resumed commercial work, and was engaged in accountancy in the offices •of "several firms. On the opening of the Auckland Technical College he conducted the evening commercial classes ifor three years., and in 190S he took over the day, as well as the evening, classes. He resigned his position at the college in July last; in order to- devote his time to private business.
