WAIHI WHIFFS.
Scott Bennett and P. H. Hickey addressed a large and enthusiastic audience at Paeroa on Friday night week, fend were enthusiastically received. TLis torrn has had a severe "intellectual shaking up" this past two months end signs are not wanting that the koine of Liberalism in Ohinemuri will »c rudely shattered ere long. Sunday night week was.a night to be •iver-reHierubered in Waihi. Long before the appointed hour, crowds began to gather, and the Miners' Hall, large though it is, once more proved too email to hold the apdience. Hundreds were turned away, although even the platform was occupied by the audience. This red letter da} , was occasioned by the farewell visit of our talented conTrede, H. Scott Bennett. Comrade W. E. Parry occupied the chair, and received a great ovation. Scott Bennett lectured on "The Class Struggle," and once more he excelled himself. Words cannot express the manner in which .the subject was dealt with, and round fcfter round of applause was heartily given. To hear the strains of "The Red Flag" arising from the throats of irimdreds of wage-slaves was convincing proof of the earnestness and enthusiasm for Socialism. E. R. Hartley has come, seen, and conquered. Everywhere in Ohinemuri ■where he has spoken, crowded houses ihave greeted him. The Miners' Hall was packed to the utmost, on tho two occasions he spoke. As a maker of Socialists, Comrade Hartley is out on Iris own. His quiet, matter-of-fact mnaxuier of treating his subject, the Imniorous illustrations of all his points, cannot but appeal to all those who want the truth. His dialogue on "The Brains and Capital of the Masters" is one which every audience iii New Zealand oTight to hear. It is excellently good and convincing by its simplicity. Comrade Hartley's visit to "(-rod's ■own country" should make these earthquake islands more entitled to the xiame of "God's own" than they are at present. The best advice Waihi Socialists can. give is for all hands to be cure and hear Hartley. Waihi wants Aim again next year. Comrade W. E. Parry arrived back in Waihi last week for a few days. All comrades were pleased to see our fighting President looking so well, especially after his arduous work on the Mines Commission and his severe illness. ~ The last social" arranged by the. Socialists of Waihi was a pronounced success. The hall was crowded and enjoyment reigned supreme. Comrade Parry gave a short address and received a' most flattering reception. Sevexal songs were also rendered. Comrade Hickey briefly referred to the near departure of Comrade Scott Bennett from New Zealand, and referred in eulogistic iwerms to the great services rendered Socialism by the lectuifrr. He then called for three cheers for Scott Bennett, which were given with great fervour. The recipient briefly responded, and then called for three cheers for modern Socialism, which were given in such a manner as to shake the dry "bones of Capitalism up for the final light for economic freedom. The meetktTg, was the greatest success of the campaign ,and we have had some real good "Capitalism shifters." Comrades, we must win. Hail the davJ—THE REBEL.
