TIMARU WATERSIDERS.
The agreement having run out, it was decided to put our demands before employers, and Aye asked for a conference!, which was at first refused, the employers offering us to come to an agreement only if we were under the I. C. and A. Act. A special meeting was called, and work stopped until the conference was . granted, the U.S.S. Cq.'s s.s. Waitamata and Korimaka being in the harbour here. The employers, seeing the stand the men took, decided to grant a conference, but the men decided,- as a few of the men workng on the two boats had gone away, not to start work untl 8 a.m. the next morning, which was carried out. , The conference has since been held, and a fortnight allowed for employers to submit a new agreement to the union on Friday, the Bth inst. The employers were given to understand by delegates that, better conditions and vyages were wanted, and it was of no use asking the men to accept the old agrement, and if better conditions were riot granted there was trouble looming ahead. —R. Gould, secretary.'
