FREEMAN FOR WELLINGTON CENTRAL.
Frank Freeman, the Socialist candidate for Wellington Central, is a ks- -' tive of Harrow, England, and is 44 years of age. He is a widely-read and! highly-cultured man, and has specialised on subjects such as prehistoxitf man, fossils, etc., which he says accounts .for his knowledge of the Liberal 1 and Labor parties. He has made a special study of educational systems?', and visited Switzerland in order to investigate tho Froebel and kindergarten methods. Some 20 years ago he read ' 'England! for All," the first British exposition ofi Marxian economies, by the' veteran H. M. Hyndman, and joined the SocialDemocratic Federatioi*. In common with his British comrades he has felt ..the joy of being alive at street cornel*?,) parks and market squares. No audience vvas too large or too small for Frank. A. few years ago at Ashburton, he addressed an audience comprising- Uie policeman, a man, two youngsters and & dog. The last has never since bcefli seen. Some five ago he sought out Go<J's Own Country, and has worked with hi* hands for a living, giving his brains to the cause. He settled at Christchurch, where he acquired something more than a local fame, and on. the resignation of Comrade Hogg, was appointed secretary of the Wellington branch: of the N.Z.S.P. Aβ a result of Freeman's efforts the frozen meat companies of Canterbury, had to increase their wages bill by some £4000 a year, our comrade being able to. put figures before the Court which conclusively proved the justice of the men's case. How he got those statis-tics--is another story, which makes Frank smile wheal he tells it. -Although a red revolutionary. Comrade Freeman has managed to keep out of prison, but desires at least to get into Parliament, where he hopes to do good work as an educator and agitator.
