NELSON NOTES.
For some time Socialist outside activities here have been suspended in consequence of many comrades having by force of the economic struggle, been compelled to remove to other centres. With the' advent of Comrade Bowen, however, things are taking on their old form again. He has attended some of the political meetings, and not being given the opportunity of properly replying to the usual slanders on Socialist teachings, has dealt with these subjects on- Sunday evenings at the open-air meeting. Mr. Atmore, on© of the candidates for Parliamentary election, is repeating the story of "Paddy and his Pig" (which he wore to death three years ago) with brazen effrontery, knowing full well that this grossly misrepresents Socialist teaching, and Comrade Bowen has given him particular "fits." There is a marked change in the attitude of the listeners at the ■meetings to that experienced five years ago, when Comrade Hulbert first took ground here.—"CELLO."
