Their demand Avas ' described bA' some of the ncAvspapers as "extravagant." In Manchester the aim of one section of strikers was "to raise to 20sV the Aveekly Avage. In a London suburb, 15,000 Avomen Avorking in a jam factory struck for an increase of wages, -Avhich Avould bring- thorn up to 8s and 9s per week. And so avc might go on, pouring out figures.
