MASS MEETING, SUNDAY. Magnificent Unity.
AUCKLAND, Monday. A demonstration was held at the Grey statue, over 2000 persons being present. Fraser (president of Union), Anns (secretary), Semple, Rosser "(Tramwaymen), Mason and others spoke. The feeling was splendid in'its unity. O'Brien moved: "That...this mass meeting of the workers emp_iatically protests against permitting subcontracting on the drainage works, believing the system to be opposed to the interests of the 'workers, inasmuch as it embodies the worst features of the competitive and sweating system; and calls on the Drainage Board t_ take immediate steps to prevent. all such in the future." The motion was submitted on a show of hands, and received with unanimous .favour. No hands shown in opposition. Loud cheering. a. elcomed the verdict, cheers also ?,einjf4 given for industrial unionism and for the N.Z.F.L.
