ITALIAN WORKERS OUSTING THE CAPITALIST.
The ■ working men and women of Milan, Italy, are carrying on a, most remarkable enterprise. The various unions and co-operations have combined into a Federation. This Federation then takes the contract for building houses-; sewers, streets and even railroads, pays its members full union wages, does its own. managing, and it already has on© of the most complete technical outfits in Italy. Though it ha,s been in existence only three years, it employs 1500 people throughout the year, and has done, work to the amouns of £240,000. It differs from other cooperative societies in that under no conditions are the' profits from the enterprise divided among the individual shareholders. They are used first for purposes of mutual aftl, such as caring for widows, orphans, and the sick. After these have been provided for, the remainder is speait for propaganda, and in assisting co-operative societies who are just starting or workers who are on strike.
