P. C. WEBB.
P. C. Webb, the Federation candidate for Grey, is a native" of Rutherglen, Victoria, and is a, miner bx occupation. Arriving in New ZeJtauad some six years ago, he has spent most of that time on the West Coast. Long before leaving his native State he was well known as a staunch unionist and enthusiastic advocate of Socialism.
Since "Paddy's" arrival iir New Zealand he has taken an active part in labor' matters, ever insisting npon the necessity, of an uncompromising, clear-cut iattitude being; ■•maintained.
"Whilst working in Denniston (Bnller district). Webb came into conflict -with, the powers th-at- be because of hi? ad- ; voeacy of working-class .> principles. . Arriving in the.Grey district, he has: since then become one of..the foremost figures in the Labor movement. Taking part in the now famous Blackball strike, he at the conclusion of (hostilities secured work at the ■ State collieries., where he now resides. Upon the resignation of- the* theai President (Mr. R. Semple), Webb was elected president of the .;local Union.! which position he still occupies. Contesting the presidency N.Z.F.L., Webb was elected, and wa.s re-el£cted -to theposition only last month. A wide reader, a ihient speaker, and a persistent -battler f o.r revolutionary working-class' industrial and political action, Paddy is in on small measure responsible 'for; tho ttiioompromising attitude -.. of the Federation;, convinced.' as ho is. that it is billy, through, iii-' du atrial .unionism and revolutiomary political" actiori "that working-class emancipation wfll be obtained. Webb 's widely and deservedly popular amongst the workers; lie is a, tried and true fighter on their behalf, and it is up to them to put that- organisation, energy and enthusiasm into the campaign as will ensure hia return.
