BLATCHFORD AND MILITARISM.

Sir,—l read a.if article in. your special issue by "Blochairn" in which it is stated that Robert Blatchford is in favour of militarism. As regards the article quoted, from the "Daily Mail," I really fail to see that is is in favour of militarism. The article in question says:—"lt is the duty of every citizen to defend HIS country." To whom does England (or N.Z.) belong? Do the workers own either country, or do the wealthy few? In London alone, taking it as an example, there are some ten millions of inhabitants. Do all the ten millions own London or even any single part of England ? No! London is owned by a number that could be counted on any two hands. Therefore, I submit that Mr. Blatchford means that the people who OWN tthe country should defend it. I have read a few of Mr. Blatchford's books, and in- not one of them can I find any writing in favour of militarism. 1 should be glad to receive any writings of Mr. Blatchford' which would prove him to be in favour of militarism.—l am, etc., Wellington. A. C. HUMFREY.
