COUNCIL ELECTION. The election of Ghristchurch city councillor to" fill the vacancy in the Central Ward repfesentatio.ii at the Council took place on August 23, the result being:—H. D. Acland (Citizens' Association nominee), 1264; Dr. Thacker (Independent), 666; R. Hoppy (Labor), 629; E. Howard (Socialist), 389. Mr. H. D. Acl&nd, we understand, is a member of the Employers' Association, and the ward is the most conservative in the eitj'. All things considered, with the running of a Labor man, Howard did not so badly.
