Among the dynamiting included m the alleged McManigal confession in connection with the Los Angeles explosion is the following paragraph: — "Oct. 19, 1910.—Charles K. .Henry's residence, Portland, Oregon, dynamited." When this section of the confession was investigated ,by the."Daily Nev's" of Portland, Mr. Henry had tho ioiSow.ing to say :— "McManigal could not be guilty of placing the explosive near my home at Laureihurst last October. "While the finding of the powder looked suspicious at the time, it was clearly shown that a foreman- named Driscoll, in the employ-of Tw<*Ky Bros., contractors, had placed tho explosive in a- tree for safe and had -forgotten all about it. City Detective Joe Day investigated the matter at my request, and the matter was cleared up beyond doubt. While tire MeNamaraw may be guilty of the crimes with which they are charged, you can quote m© as being positive that they had ■'nothing to do with the affair at Laurelhur.st." —''Appeal to Reason."
