ACTING-PRIME MINISTER LISTENS TO ANTI-CONSCRIPTIONISTS. On Sunday, 23rd inst., the Socialists held a meeting to protest against the Conscription Act and the gaoling of boys. There Avas an exceptionally large attendance. Comrades Robinson, Patterson, Hunter, Mayman, Beck. Duncan, and Couch contributed forcible addresses upon the subject. Sir James Carroll, Acting-JPremier, was present. He did not breathe a word' in defence of the "defence scheme." Are AA'e to conclude that Carroll has been con- ■ verted?

Mills has been here. The Huntly folk gavo "the little giant" a good hearing. His subject, Public Ownership of Monopolised Industries appealed strongly to his audience. When, he intimated that he would probably return to our township the people applauded. He further stated that his mission was to unite all tho Labour forces into ONE army. We Avill follow Comrade Mills' efforts with more than ordinary interest. Over tAventy copies' of "The Struggle for Existence" A\ r ore ordered at the meeting. Last week J. E. Duncan and J. Fulton interviewed Sir J. Carroll and Mr. Greens-lade, M.P., and laid before: them the urgent needs of the little children of Huntly, also other matters affecting the community.—Billy Banjo.
