MILLS AND MONOPOLIES.

Sir, —Professor Mills' proposition to buy out monopolists by means of in-terest-bearing .bonds does not (as P. Williams points out) "touch the spot" in a satisfactory way. Why not adopt the policy of making them buy each other out and so effect confiscation in a way to which no serious objection could be raised ? Tax the monopolists sufficiently to buy one or more of them out; then repeat the process till the whole ot the industries of the country are nationalised. It needn't cost the people a cent., and so we would not need to further pawn our credit with. London usurers to obtain the money. This method has. been suggested in dealing with landlords, and there is no reason wny tlie land should not be resumed in that" way. But, of course, we will need a Socialist Administration to eia.ij on the taxes. Also, it wouid navar do to let the monopolists rrx trie price. ilrverton. J.8.H..
