Masterton Movements.
Tho Masterton Technical School has at the request of the Sheep-owners and Farmers Union decided to give classes on .shoep-sheairing. The most active advocate for thi.3 departure is a Mr. Nevins, who played a very prominent part in trying to defeat tne Shearers Union when its case wa« b;> ing reviewed bry tho Arbitration Court. The idea behind these c*i t .:.c>_ti is to so multiply tho number of shearers that the competition for :0u.3 >.iU be as keen amongst them as it is in other branches of eniployment. "V\ c cannot imagine anyone of Mr. Nev'in'.s il]i. advocating the teaching of any trade unless they expect, a ..•.. ,> ht' considerably thereby. They would profit by a servile body of shearers who would work for a mere pittance and under conditions incompatible with decency. However, the iers Union has nothing to fear by this latest movement on the part of squatterocracy. Let them manufacture the competent shearer and then 'o! tho Union organise them and make good Unionists of them. This attempt to increase the supply of shearers we fancy was resorted to in ustralia before to-day, and the result— more good A.W.U. men.
