CO-OPERATIVE COMMITEE.
A meeting of the Waikato Miners Union was neld on 7th inst. President J. Fulton was in the chair, and tnero was an unusually large attendance. Great interest centred around tlie questions of a Miners' -iall and a co-operative store, and many forcible speeches wero heard, all condemning vigorously the conditions of tho workers. Tho President briefly outlined tho miners' efforts to secure land lor a hall and workers' homes. From first to last no energy was restrained m order to bring aoout the desired consummation, even a scheme- which entailed uho investment of £1000 by tho miners was frustrated. The meetimg resolved to make a further attempt to secure a site and Secretary J. E. Duncan and Treasurer C. Allen wero deputed to attend to the matter. The secretary brought forward an idea he thought would be workable if the organisation among the workers was as it ought to be. His plan was to place ourselves in such a position that would enable the workers to dictate to the exploiters of our foodstuffs; to deal only with the store that would serve the needs of the people, and thus control tho outside exploiter at the same time. After discussion a resolution was carried to appoint five of a committee to devise ways and means of bringing about a co-operative system in Huntly. The following were appointed :—Comrades Marshall, K. Grundy, B. Couoh, H. J. Beck and J. Turtin. _. , Comrade R. Grundy gave notice of motion: "That we request the.N.Z.F.L. to define the duties of the organiser, with a view to havo unaffiliated unions merged into the Federation. — BILLY BANJO.
