Machine-made Lace.

Upwards of 10,000 workers engaged in the finishing processes of machinemade lace> —tho bulk of them homeworkers in the poorer quarters of Nottingham and neighbouring .small towns —are coming under the benefits of the Trades Board Act. The Board of Trade- has now resolved that: —"The minimum or lowest time-rato for the trade of machine-made lace and netfinishing other than tho finishing of the product of plain net machines, shall be 2£d per hour up to and including September CO, 1 ( J12, and 3d per hour thereafter free and clear of all

deductions.'. . An interesting feature of the new list is the attempt to deal with the difficulty of defective draw threads. A penalty of i<l per gross yards is in future to be imx>osed on lace having two fold threads.
