Sub Rosa.

By "Our Reptile Contemporary."

Sterling Contributions.

The first copy of the weekly " The Maoriland Worker " reaches " Barrier Daily Truth " from the editor, Mr. R. S. Ross. Previously this journal was issued as a monthly, and did good -work in the reform movement. Now that it has been taken over by the New Zealand Federation of Labour, and issued weekly as a journal of industrial unionism, socialism, and politics, its influence is certain to increase. The copy that lies before us contains 16 pages of wellwritten matter of vital interest to all -workers. Editor Ross has been successful in obtaining sterling contributions from " Dogmatist ,a (author of the "' Materialist Conception of History "), Australia's bard, Bernard O'Dowd, and Mr. p H Hickey. Ross, -himself, writes one of his fascinating book studies, choosing " The States General," by Erckmann Chatrian. for his stibiect.

There is a sprightliness about the typographical lay out and general got up of the paper that is rare in publications dealing with serious and as " The Worker " is excellently printed on good paper it is not only invites but commands reading. We congratulate Mr. Ross on his initial issue of the " Weekly Maoriland Worker," and trust that he will be able to maintain the high standard of literary excellence that he has set for himself. —"The Barrier Daily Truth," Broken Hill. A Warning to Fat. " The Maoriland Worker," the official organ of the Federation of Labour (as distinct from the federation of Trades and Labour Councils), has now got into its stride as a weekly. R. S. Ross, its new editor, has brightened it up so that even Fat will find it readable. But he had better not read it—Ross writes so convincingly sometimes that he might be converted. —" Bulletin," Australia. Fine Propagandist Paper. "The Maoriland "Worker" became a weekly on May sth—Karl Marx's birthday. "The Worker" is now under control of Mr. It. S. Ross, a devout Marx-

ian, who rejoices that ihe paper he edits should celebrate the .birthday of the great Socialist by taking a big step forward. Ross is producing a fine propagandist paper. — " Worker,"
