"NO COMPROMISE."
(To the Editor.) Dear Editor, —iviaiiy of your readers iiere are deiignt-td with. the firtst number of the weekly issue or The MaoiuljAnd Workeb. If we are to get sucii articles as "The Day we Celebrate' ; and "May Day," then many happy hours are in store for us. 1 cannot Help referring to P. H. Mickey's "jMo Compromise,' which is certainly getting clown to bedrock in grand style. No 3 Pat, we must never deviate from our policy of Industrial Unionism and feociaiism. We have just got over the excitement, or rather iuoJi of excitement, re Borough Cotmcil election. We have the Labour Party x etturne< i "with flying colours, and, on! such a party. Four of the live Labour candidates were returned, and three of the four have never belonged to any Labour organisation in their lives, and the fourtn is a member of the Chamber of Commerce. It does seem strange that all the Labour parties in the dominion that put up candidates for municipal honours Ixad outlined their policy to fight vested interests, commercialism and the Unainber of Commerce; and yet the head of the Labour Party in Greymoiitli is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and lias persuaded the Greymouth Wharf Labourers' Union to be represented also in the Chamber! We have much need here of some good speakers; the very presence of suoh would be sure to bring out one or two of our local comrades who only want a little encouragement. However, we don't, despair. The Maoiuxand WORKER is making converts. One man told mc to-day that he would iuver speak against Socialism any more since reading your last issue— ■•■> good luck to your able efforts. JOHN OSBORNE.
