Sugar is always going up. Meat baa folloAved suit, and is never again going to come down, King Kidman, of Australia, declares; and now it is the turn of the salt wherewith we qualify our porridge or season the breakfast egg. One Avould think that this humble but indispensable commodity would be be.ne.ath the cupidity of the big exploiter. Not so, however, and the reasons for the rise are: — Depletion of stocks of the Australasian product, and short supplies from overseas. The excuse is a transparent flam, the fact being that it is another of the tricks of "trade and commerce."
