When Will It Be?
When will it be —can you tell to mc ?— When wicked and prodigal luxury To the drones of earth will be denied, Till the wants of all are satisfied ? That time is coming, without a doubt. But what are you doing to help it out? When will it be—can you tell to mc ?— When the working man will have eyes to see That want and poverty need not dwell On the face of the earth he tills so well ? That time is coming, it yet shall be— When the deaf can hear and the the blind can see! When will it be—can you tell to mc ?— When over the land and over the sea 'Twill be our earnest end and aim That men be brothers in more than name ? That glorious time will be a-near When the blind can see and the deaf can hear! And who are the deaf, and who are the blind? Each one who strives to rob his kind; Feeding the fire of a senseless greed In a world of plenty, where none may need. Is it not pitiful—monstrous—mad, When all the earth might be smiling and glad ? But it is coming, when men will be Zealous to hearken, eager to see: When from the earth want shall have flown, E'en the fear of it shall be unknown. Men, are ye ready ? Ye have the say. Up! and help us to speed the day! J as. Simpson. Westport.
