My Desire
Our lives like water 'neath the bridge of time, Flow ever on -with many a carting fret; Till by Nature's law sublime, We "fall on sleep,"—and all our cares forgeifc. Then why the toil and tumult of the way ? The craze for wealth, the pomp and love of gain ? Jt lengthens not life's span one single clay, let causes "untold misery and pain. Ofttimes I see, as in a pleasant dream, A world where mankind all shall be as one; When joy and mirth together on life's stream Shall float —where lust and greed of gain are gone. Like ancient Omar, I would fain conspire To shatter all this sorry scheme of things. And mould earth nearer to the heart's desire, With Demos Lord of All, and King of Kings! C. E. LAMBERT. I Wellington.
